Platform

« Back to Glossary Index

A platform is a flexible foundation or environment in which users can develop projects. Windows and Mac are two different platforms, for example. Twitter is also a platform. But wait!, you say — isn't Twitter a tool? And you're right — Twitter is a tool. What makes Twitter a platform is that it's designed to be flexible enough that people might use it for very different projects. To give you an example of how different : some Twitter accounts are hooked up to autobroadcast photos or information from inanimate objects. The LowFlyingRocks account (https://twitter.com/lowflyingrocks) mentions every object that passes within 0.2AU (a unit that's equal to the distance between the Earth and the sun) of earth.
